Who would hire this bunch of frat boys? was my early impression, and ultimately, the chatty style fills up paragraphs without illuminating the setting much. A reasonable bulking-out of UPP stats for a world that doesn't have a lot of obvious adventuring potential or reason to exist. A couple of pieces of equipment are interesting, such as the multi-caliber revolver and personal survival unit.
At half the price and on a regular schedule, it might have been a helpful sort of a series.
This is not the first (nor second) time that I've seen that cover art, which has nothing to do with the contents, unless those guys are the crew of the "Avenger". ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

If you ike the more obscure monsters in D&D, then you will love this book. It gives very useful tips on the psychology and society of winter wolves along with sample characters that do a fine job of showing what they're talking about. It also has a small adventure site to go along with the sample pack.
It gives you a chance to use the winter wolves without turning it into a generic battle, or even without fighting at all! A very well done book and more than worth the price asked.

This is the single best reinvention Traveller has yet experienced. The core rules are everything you could ever want, and does a fine job of selling me on the supplements by virtue of its polished and complete nature....put another way, the core book is so well done it compels me to by the supplements.
LIKES: provides an excellent ruleset from which to run classic science fiction campaigns, and touches on expanding to settings outside of the classic Traveller universe setting of the Imperium.Clean layout, good index, and the V2 edition has some very nice art. This edition is spiritually and mechanically closer to the original CT and MT than any later editions, as well...a good thing for me.
DISLIKES: not much to complain about. Early purchasers for the first print dealt with a few odd bits of errata, but those are all fixed in the PDF edition. ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

The Introduction jumps straight in by discussing how Glorantha's troubled past means that it is spectacularly rich in all manner of ruins... and that due to magic and warring gods some, at least, are fantastical and bizarre places just crying out for brave adventurers to explore them if they dare. It also explains that there are two main ways in which you can design your ruins - either around one particular concept, or by drawing on the history of Glorantha and the specific place you want to have your ruin, so that it fits in organically with its surroundings. And, of course, there are some samples to play with.
Hence, Chapter 1: Creating Ruins looks at various ways to get your creative juices flowing once you've decided that you want a ruin. If no clear idea suggests itself, there are 'Ruin Creation Tables' which can be rolled on randomly - or perhaps just reading them will suggest elements that you want to use. Some people may like to envisage the entire lifecyle of the ruin, from ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Great book. Many of the spells are very creative and explore options undreamed of in other sources. I see only two minor drawbacks: this download needs to be bookmarked for faster reference, and there are no descriptions with the spell lists (maybe a bonus download?). Many of the new spells in this book have become mainstays in my Cleric's daily spells.

A giant dungeon crawl adventure in a box. Not the best "dungeon-in-a-box" you've ever seen (I still like Dragon Mountain better), but certainly not the worst. Suffers from some less than stellar maps, art and layout but these were problems with many earlier Mongoose products. Nothing that's a deal breaker. Handling something as large as this in PDF is a little tricky and may not be everyone's liking.

Not the best book Mongoose has ever published, but not the worst either. Mongoose is one of those companies that just keeps getting better as it rolls along and this is an earlier product. Adventure story line isn't bad, but it's not great either and I never really got a lot of use out of it.

Let me state right off that this is a good book, and worth getting, but the advertisement does not explain that this is just a re-release with a different cover of the previous Special Supplement 3: Patron Encounters and is the same book, verbatim. I already purchased Special Supplement 3, and would not have also gone on to purchase this had I realized they were one and the same (and yeah, I could have checked out the preview, but let's face it, everything Comstar does is great, and I just thought this was a new book of encounters from them). So....excellent book, well worth getting, but it needs to be marked as a repackaging of a previous PDF for those who already have the other one, please! I could have bought other cool Traveller stuff with this money rather than pay for the same book twice.
Content: 5/5 lots of good scenario ideas for the harried referee, and generic enough to insert in any campaign
Look: 3/5 nothing special, no frills packaging, but this is Traveller, eh? an ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
